Mortgage rates neared record lows this week, reports Freddie Mac in its weekly mortgage survey. As uncertainty and turmoil roiled the financial markets, investors poured money into US Treasury bonds, still one of the safest investments despite debt and downgrade concerns. This demand pushed Treasury yields lower, and mortgage interest rates followed. It appears unlikley that rates will rise significantly anytime soon.
