The Wall Street Journal reports in its real estate blog that young buyers are finding now is the time for that first home purchase.  With prices flat and interest rates still relatively low, younger first-time buyers are finding that they can afford more home than they would have a few years ago. Plus they don't have the complication of having to unload an existing home that also has dropped in value before they can buy a new one.

While prices are great, there are some hurdles that buyers must overcome, mainly tighter lending criteria.  The most important thing buyers can do is get their credit in order -- especially since many have a limited credit history.
